Is this for me?

“If I could only share one secret about how to take amazing images, it would be the art of composition and understanding the visual language of photography.”

Let multi-award winning photographer Simon Ellingworth show you how to stop taking pictures that look like everybody else’s, how to create stronger images with more impact that hold the viewers eye for longer.

You’ll learn:
– The rules of composition and when to break them.
– How to use compositional influencers to create narrative, depth and meaning in your images.
– How to take stronger more compelling images.

Towards the end, I like to do an anonymous critique of images.  If you would like to be included, please bring no more than 3 images on a USB and give them to me on the day.  Unless you offer the information, this will be totally anonymous but I think it’s a great way to get some feedback on images.

This workshop is not genre specific and can help you make stronger images if you’re a beginner or a veteran photographer.

You will need to bring a note pad, pen and an open mind.

Why will this make me a better photographer?

This is a full days workshop looking at composition and narrative. We will discuss and deconstruct images, learn what the photographer is saying and how they are saying it. You’ll learn to both read and create images with more impact.

Key Learning points:

  • The rules of composition including the rule of thirds and golden ratio
  • Examples of simple reframing
  • 2 tricks to force better composition
  • How to shift your perspective to tell a better story
  • How to ‘read’ an image
  • compositional influencers and how to use them to build narrative
(including vanishing points, negative space, framing your subject and leading lines)
  • Attendees image review and final Q&A

My Challenge to you:

Take these skills away and send me just one image that you consider says it all.
One person will be declared the winner and offered a workshop voucher worth £100
