Our first boudoir workshop was from lighting ninja, international educator and all round nice guy – Andrew Appleton. This was a full days course taking a thorough look at the boudoir genre. There was lots of audience participation and visual stimulation as they collectively wrestled to decided which examples were boudoir and why images did or did not work.
My Thoughts:
I watched this workshop with great interest. As I’m both a professional photographer, speedlight user, photography magazine editor and all round photography education junkie – I’d consider myself pretty discerning and not easily impressed.
With some 4 hours of very practical shooting after the classroom based morning, participants were soon nailing some great shots. Andrew encouraged and reinforced learning points and they were soon practicing what they had learnt – including communicating with the model.
Andrew ran throught lots of practical tips about making the subject comfortable, relaxed, engaged and invested.
There were 4 lighting setups spread over two areas of the studio and everyone loved getting a few different looks.
Customers loved our command console and soon were very comfortable adjusting the multiple Broncolor strobe lights remotely.
The participants made teams of three, two of them manning and learning how to adjust the lights while the third person directed and shot.
