Our first workshop was from lighting ninja, international educator and all round nice guy – Andrew Appleton. His 2 hour rapid track workshop is cleverly based on the premise that for the price of 1 x Canon or Nikon propitiatory speedlight you can buy an entire portable studio including several Ebay speedlights.

What I loved about it is that he’s sharing his valuable experience and knowledge as he’s constructed the best kit and shopping list just for you, and then blows your socks off with just what you can do with it!

My Thoughts:

I watched this brand new workshop with great interest. As I’m both a professional photographer, speedlight user, photography magazine editor and all round photography education junkie – I’d consider myself pretty discerning and not easily impressed.

I really enjoyed it! – the two hours simply whizzed past, it was engaging, insightful and a couple of the attendees were scribbling madly (even though Andrew emails all the slides and even a video explaining some concepts in more detail). The kit he constructed was brilliant, uber flexible and cleverly constructed, and yes, less than the price of a single Canon speedlight!

What I thought was particularly good is that he covers some fundamentals making them startlingly simple to understand and then did an awesome practical section shooting a model with so many lighting setups, I lost count! Each of the setups, re-enforced the concepts he’d explained and he got his audience involved in the thinking process.

The course was a 2 hours fast track and frankly, ridiculously cheap at £20 and you don’t need an in depth knowledge to attend.
There is definitely; potential; of longer version of the course at a half or even full day where the attendees can shoot with the kit too.

I even learned something, but don’t tell Andrew.
